The Denver Aquarium is a fun thing to do when visiting Denver. We took a day trip to Denver and spent a few hours visiting the aquarium with our two young kids. The Aquarium hosts over 500 different species of animals which makes for a fun filled day with kids of all ages.

Things to Know Before you go:

1. You can purchase tickets ahead of time online or you can get them at the ticket office right at the Aquarium. It is important to know that they have timed tickets in 15 minute increments and you have to enter within a half hour of the time on your ticket. I would suggest purchasing tickets online if you are going on a weekend or during busy times like summer and holiday breaks. We went during the week and it was not very busy and we were able to get tickets for whatever time we wanted. The cost for adults is $24.99, kids 3-11 are $18.99 and 2 and under are free. You can purchase tickets online here: https://www.aquariumrestaurants.com/downtownaquariumdenver/default.asp

2. There is a parking lot right across the street from the Aquarium with designated parking. The cost is $8.00 for the day. This parking lot is also used by the Children’s museum so if you wanted to visit both places in one day you could take advantage of only paying for one day of parking.

3. There are a few extra things that you can do that are not included in your general admission ticket. There is a 4-D theater experience, a restaurant and a carousel. All of these things cost extra and the prices can be found on their website. It’s important to note that not all of theses things are always available. Check their website for times of these extra experiences.

4. The whole Aquarium took us about 45 minutes-1 hour to walk through at a moderate pace. We went with my three year old who loved stopping to look at things but made it very clear when she wanted to move on. The exhibits are broken up into different regions where they are found throughout the world. The flow of the Aquarium was great and the viewing of the different species of animals was awesome. It was very easy for small children to see the majority of the creatures without having to be lifted up. Lots of the exhibits were very low to the ground which was great when visiting with a toddler.

5. There is a stingray exhibit toward the end of the Aquarium where you can actually pet the stingray. This was a very cool experience and my daughter thought it was fascinating. She was a bit too small to be able to pet them since you do have to put your hand down in the water a bit but she still enjoyed watching us pet them. You can also feed the stingrays but this is an additional cost and it is only at certain times so be sure to check the schedule if this is something that you wish to do during your visit.

6. Strollers are not a problem when walking through the aquarium. There is plenty of walking space even when it is busy. I would suggest not taking a huge double stroller as some passages are a bit narrow. We only bring one stroller when we go since my 3 year old can handle walking through the Aquarium by herself as it is not huge. My one year old sometimes like to get out and walk too so then his big sister can take a break and sit in the stroller if she wants to.

Overall, the Denver Aquarium is a fun place to visit for kids of all ages. There are lots of things to see and do for people of all ages. If you are visiting Denver with young kids, the Aquarium is a fun stop.
